School Life Long Ago....

On Thursday 10/9/15, the 6th Class pupils invited local Crotta man Gerald Byrnes into their classroom. Having spent the week learning about primary schools of the past, the children extended an invitation to Gerald, in the hope that he would share some of his own memories of school.
Needless to say, Gerald did not disappoint. He reminisced freely of the days he spent in St. Teresa’s National School. Having attended the school from 1947-1955, Gerald discussed the old school building, his barefoot walks from Garrynagore to school, carrying turf for the classroom fire, their playground games and of course some stories of mischief and devilment which are synonymous with Gerald.
The children were in awe as they examined Gerald’s photographs, depicting the days of the donkey and cart loaded with turf for school. Everyone was particularly impressed with Gerald’s medal collection. Gerald proudly showed us a collection of medals that belonged to his late father Willie Byrnes. Such medals consisted of county championship medals his father had won with Crotta O’Neills. Our future stars were only too delighted to hold the medals with honour.

Gura fada buan tú!!

St.Teresa's had a special spiny visitor on Tuesday....

Paddy and Maureen Weir were kind enough to drop up a spiny hedgehog to our school this week.  The children were very excited to see a real hedgehog up so close. He was fed and looked after really well for the day :) Thanks Paddy and Maureen.

Our Field Trip to Fenit :)

Junior and Senior Infants went on their first Field Trip to Fenit on Wednesday.

There was so much to see and do. It was a fun filled educational day out with a bit of exercise thrown in J

Fenit received a Blue Flag for being a really clean beach. We learned that the red and yellow flag meant the Lifeguards were on duty.

It was a bit misty but the view was amazing!!

Monkey Bar Time

We made sure to get some exercise too:)

Green Flag

Daragh O'Braoin, Caitlin Quinn and Aoife Bowler represented Scoil Treasa Naofa as members of our Green Schools Committee. They travelled by train to Cork on the 26th May to the presentation ceremony in the Clayton Hotel. Michael O'Coillean presented the Energy Green Flag to the pupils in a hall packed with other Green Schools from the region. They were then treated to a meal as part of their celebrations. Well done to everyone for all their hard work!

JEP Reward Trip 2015

Our 5th & 6th class pupils made a profit of €720 in their Junior Entrepreneur Project ‘Kilflynn Beats’. With the profits they earned, the children decided to go on an activity based school trip to ‘Active Kingdom’ in John Mitchels GAA Club grounds in Tralee.
They thoroughly enjoyed the well earned day!!!
