Christmas Concert in St. Mary's Church
Christmas
Concert
Festive cheer was
certainly in the air around Kilflynn on Sunday night with a celebration of
seasonal music and song in St. Mary’s Church. Ms Enright’s 1st class
were in lively form with an energetic performance of the Christmas musical ‘It’s
a Baby!’ Mrs. Cunningham’s 3rd and 4th class and Mrs.
Kearney’s 5th and 6th class performed a selection of
traditional tunes and Christmas songs that ensured everyone was entertained.
The Kilflynn Church Choir provided a variety of beautiful and well chosen songs
and put on a superb performance. Bishop Ray Browne was in attendance and
praised the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the concert. Your
support on the night was very much appreciated. Nollaig Shona Daoibh Go Léir.
Primary Debating Ireland
Primary
Debating Ireland
On Monday, 1st
of December, our 6th Class pupils travelled to The Education Centre,
Tralee to take part in the Primary Debating Ireland Competition. Our team
opposed the motion ‘Every child of school going age should have a mobile phone.’
It was evident that the children had prepared well and spoke confidently with
impressive debating skills. Well done to all involved.
The Hour of Code
The Hour of
Code - Get into the Code Mode!
5th
& 6th Class
During the week of December 8th-14th, over 180
countries are participating in the Hour of Code 2014, when young people get a
chance to be creative with computers! It’s taking place in schools globally,
from Alaska to Zambia and from Kenya to Kilflynn, where Mrs. Kearney’s 5th
and 6th class pupils are making full use of our new ICT facilities.
The children are using a programme called ‘Scratch’ which allows them
to create simple games and puzzles. When people learn to code in ‘Scratch’,
they learn important strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and
communicating ideas.
So, if you like the sound of the ‘Scratch’
programme, why not check it out? Go on, get cracking ‘coz it’s cool to code!

Science Week 2014 with Junior Infants
Science Week 2014- The Power of Chemicals!!!!! As part of Science Week we did a lot of experiments. Our favourites were 'The bouncing egg' and 'The bendy bone'.
We added vinegar to the chicken bone and after a few days it became all bendy!!!! We also added vinegar to an egg and it became so soft that the shell popped off and became like paper. It felt really cool being a scientist :)

Killarney National Park paid a visit to Infants !!
Catherine from Killarney National Park paid us a visit. We saw loads of different types of predators and prey. They were real animals too!!! We were able to rub them and see their pointy teeth as well as see how soft their fur was. It was a really exciting day :)
Pair work with Junior Infants and First Class
