Christmas Charity in Second Class

The Second class of 2016/17 are a truly remarkable bunch! They have blown their parents, teacher, principal and the local media away by their display of kindness and charity at such a young age.
The children collected and decorated pine cones as Christmas decorations for an art lesson but decided they could do more with them. They believed they could decorate enough to sell in school and raise money for charity. when their teacher, Tina O' Connell, asked them who would they like to give the money to they deliberated amongst themselves and decided they would like to give it locally to children their own age. More specifically to sick children, who may have to spend Christmas in hospital - from experience they noted the play room needed attention.

They raised €330 to buy toys for the Children's Ward in Kerry University Hospital! Representatives from the hospital came to school on Wednesday, 21 Dec, to receive the toys.
The children received a certificate of appreciation for their "very generous contribution to children's playime" and for "the excellent fundraising work undertaken by Rang 2 St. Teresa's National School, Kilflynn to purchase toys for Cashel Ward, University Hospical Kerry in December 2016".

Choir

The after school choir meet every Wednesday with Mrs. Tina O' Connell to rehearse for any upcoming mass or school event and to learn new songs. They put in many extra hours to prepare for a special Christmas performance in the Palliative Care Unit in Kerry University Hospital. They included in their set Christmas Carols old and new, traditional music, Irish dancing, Christmas recitation and (as seen on the Toy Show) Wagon Wheel. It was a fabulous, emotional and special day. The patients attending the unit, family members and staff thoroughly enjoyed the children's performance. The children enjoyed performing and spreading Christmas cheer in the unit. Santa even made an appearance with a treat for all the children!!

Science is Fun Dress Up Day Challenge

Science can be so creative!!!!  On Friday all the children took part in the Science is Fun Dress Up Day J

Everyone really got into character with  an array of scientists, scientific discoveries and inventions to be seen in St. Teresa's for the day.

A huge thank you to all the children, parent's and families who helped make it a really special memorable day.

To top it off, both First Class and Fourth Class (much to the teacher's surprise ) did impromptu Mannequin Challenges.

As always Science Week was a huge success...here's to next years :)

Science Week 2016 in Ms. Walsh's Class

We had a fun-filled Science Week in 4th class this year. It turns out that there may be a few budding scientists in the making!!

Everyone learned how exciting science can be, how science surrounds our daily lives and how fun it was to discover how experiments work J
