The Second class of 2016/17 are a truly remarkable bunch! They have blown their parents, teacher, principal and the local media away by their display of kindness and charity at such a young age.
The children collected and decorated pine cones as Christmas decorations for an art lesson but decided they could do more with them. They believed they could decorate enough to sell in school and raise money for charity. when their teacher, Tina O' Connell, asked them who would they like to give the money to they deliberated amongst themselves and decided they would like to give it locally to children their own age. More specifically to sick children, who may have to spend Christmas in hospital - from experience they noted the play room needed attention.
They raised €330 to buy toys for the Children's Ward in Kerry University Hospital! Representatives from the hospital came to school on Wednesday, 21 Dec, to receive the toys.
The children received a certificate of appreciation for their "very generous contribution to children's playime" and for "the excellent fundraising work undertaken by Rang 2 St. Teresa's National School, Kilflynn to purchase toys for Cashel Ward, University Hospical Kerry in December 2016".
